ABOUT LAURA GRISAMORE
Laura Grisamore is a photographer and artist. A native Iowan, she earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Iowa, where she studied photojournalism. From 2003 to 2013, her work focused on photo documentaries exploring urbanism and the social landscapes of Des Moines, Iowa City, Chicago, and New York City. After relocating to Park Rapids (PR) in 2013, she shifted her artistic focus to conceptual photography, utilizing Northern Minnesota’s landscapes, textures, and found objects.
Since 2014, Grisamore’s work has been exhibited at Great River Arts, The Watermark, Nemeth Art Center, New York Mills Cultural Center, The MacRostie and The PR Armory. In 2023, she launched Project Unincorporated MN, funded by a Creative Individual MSAB Grant, documenting unincorporated towns in rural Northern Minnesota, marking a return to her photo documentary roots. She was awarded a 2025 MSAB Creative Individual Grant to expand the project.
Grisamore is passionate about the arts and arts advocacy, currently serving as chair of the Park Rapids Arts and Culture Advisory Commission. She has also chaired the Region 2 Arts Council and served on the board of the Nemeth Art Center. She has worked with local artists, arts organizations, businesses, PR city entities, and the Chamber of Commerce to help develop and implement numerous placemaking projects throughout the PR area. And has presented at the AEM Fall Conference and taught photography workshops through PR DAC and PR Continuing Education.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Grisamore enjoys substitute teaching K-12 in the Nevis School District. She is owner and operator of Lauralee Photography and co-owner of Studio 176, an art gallery in downtown PR where her work is showcased year-round.
